Now Accepting Students For 2008-2009!
Our Clubs
Clubs are an important part of our school and, with the secure live classroom and virtual world space technology available to us, there are numerous clubs and social groups that meet together. We add clubs as there is interest and parent volunteers or others to host them.
Our current list of clubs for middle and high school age students includes:
| Photography | Virtual Worlds |
| One Green World | Web Design |
| Writers Club | Fine Arts Group |
| Book Club | Microworlds & Robotics |
| Parents Survival Guide |
- Photography: Our photography club welcomes everyone with an interest in practicing, sharing and improving their photographic interest. We are privileged to have Julia Grace of Julia Grace Photography as the hostess of this group. Julia Grace is a graduate of the Hallmark Institute of Photography and loves to share her joy in creativity and expression through photography with others. (Student members can receive course credit for participation in this club.)
- Virtual Worlds: Those interested in exploring the creative and technological possibilities of virtual worlds will find an encouraging community in our virtual worlds club. Our safe, secure virtual world spaces provide the perfect environment for learning to navigate and create in this amazing technology. We are privileged to have Tim "Flipper" Allen as the host of this group. Tim is a pioneer in virtual world technology and has developed commercial, educational and other solutions in virtual space. (Student members can receive course credit for participation in this club.)
- One Green World: Be a green person! Actively seeking ways to live well while wasting less, this group, young and old, work together to help us all live a greener lifestyle. (Student members can receive course credit for participation in this club.)
- Web Design: Each student has access to personal web space in our technology platform, allowing each to create web pages or sites for the internet. Our web design club encourages its members to learn the languages of web design and implementation. We are very happy to have Eric Lee of Jiva Creative as the host of this club.(Student members can receive course credit for participation in this club.)
- Writers Club: Our writers club is a close knit group, sharing each others' efforts, creativity and experience. Club members often invite authors and others to live discussions and question and answer sessions with members held in one of our online auditoriums. (Student members can receive course credit for participation in this club.)
- Fine Arts Group: If you're a person who expresses yourself with paint, charcoal, ink or other fine arts medium, you'll want to join this group of creative and imaginative people. Sharing their work along with discussions with amateur and professional artists, gallery owners, museum staff and others keep this lively group humming. (Student members can receive course credit for participation in this club.)
- Microworlds and Robotics From beginner to advanced, our group of avid explorers delve into the Microworlds EX application and its use in robotics as well as in teaching math, computer languages and more. This is a great club for those wanting to build and reinforce their math skills by putting them to use in a practical way. A lot of fun! (Student members can receive course credit for participation in this club.)
- Book Club: Our program involves a lot of reading but this group can't get enough and shares their love of reading and their thoughts with each other. (Students can receive course credit for their participation in this club.)
- Parents Survival Guide to Online Schooling: A fun group of our parents who encourage each other, sharing the joys and challenges of schooling at home online. Hosted by Twila Smoker, a mom of both home schooled and online schooled students, along with several other parents, this group is extremely helpful and supportive, especially to the families newly joining our school community.
We encourage all of our students (and parents too!) to participate in one or more clubs and social groups during their time at World Wide Community School Online.
